How do you get Explosive acceleration in FC 26?

Explosive has a height ceiling, and above it no amount of agility gets you there. EA published all three rules in full, which makes this one of the few build questions with a checkable answer.

182cm
the tallest a male player can be and still be Explosive

Height is a hard gate on the fastest starting type. Above it, no amount of agility or acceleration gets you there.

Three types, and EA published all three rules

FC 26 went back to three acceleration types: Explosive, Lengthy and Controlled. EA says three were easier to understand than four and produced a better balance between them, and then did something unusual for this subject. It printed the thresholds.

TypeAttributesHeight, male
ExplosiveAgility 65, Acceleration 80, Agility above Strength by 10182cm or under
LengthyStrength 65, Acceleration 40, Strength above Agility by 4183cm or over
ControlledEverything that meets neither ruleAny

Every attribute figure in that table is a minimum. The two gap rules are the ones people miss: Explosive wants your Agility at least ten points clear of your Strength, and Lengthy wants your Strength at least four points clear of your Agility.

Why spending points on Strength can cost you pace

The gap is what makes this counterintuitive. Push Strength up and Agility stays exactly where it was, but the difference between them shrinks, and once it drops under ten your player stops being Explosive.

Nothing on the build screen announces that. You spent points, an attribute went up, and the starting burst you had last week is gone. If you are chasing Explosive, treat Strength as a budget with a ceiling rather than a stat to fill.

Height is set before you spend anything

Each Archetype comes with its own range for height and weight. So whether Explosive is reachable at all is decided when you pick a build, and a 190cm Archetype cannot get there however you spend your Attribute Points.

Female players use the same attribute thresholds and different heights. EA separated that part of the formula: 162cm and under for Explosive, 164cm and over for Lengthy.

The type list is tagged by EA as new generation, which covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. On the older consoles you are playing a different movement model and these rules do not describe it.

Controlled is the default, not a failure

Any player who misses both rules is Controlled. Most of the game is Controlled, and EA also says it adjusted the early stages of all three types to be more responsive and made deceleration snappier for everybody.

A Controlled Pro with the attributes you actually use beats an Explosive one built by moving points around to satisfy a table. The type is one property of a player and the match is played with the rest of them.

What nobody can measure for you

EA published this in the FC 26 gameplay notes and did not restate it in the Clubs notes. Your Pro carries the attributes and the height the rule reads, and the Archetype you chose sets the range each is allowed to sit in, so the rule has everything it needs. EA simply never wrote the Clubs sentence.

This site cannot check your type either. Attributes reach no match row EA serves, so every figure on Clublytics is about what players did and none of it is about what they were built from. The build screen in front of you is the only place your own numbers can be read.

Questions people ask

What are the acceleration types in FC 26?
Three: Explosive, Lengthy and Controlled. EA went back to three this year and said it made the pace of play easier to read and the balance between the types better.
What do you need to be Explosive in FC 26?
Four things at once, for a male player. Agility of at least 65, Acceleration of at least 80, Agility at least 10 points above Strength, and a height of 182cm or under.
What makes a player Lengthy?
Strength of at least 65, Acceleration of at least 40, Strength at least 4 points above Agility, and a height of 183cm or more for a male player.
What is Controlled acceleration?
The default. Any player who misses the Explosive and Lengthy requirements is Controlled, so it is where most of the game lands and it is not a penalty for getting a build wrong.
Can adding Strength cost you Explosive acceleration?
Yes, and this is the trap. The rule reads the gap between Agility and Strength, so points spent on Strength close that gap and can drop you out of Explosive while your Agility sits exactly where it was.
Are the requirements the same for female players?
The attribute thresholds are. The heights are not: EA separated that part of the formula, and set 162cm and under for Explosive against 164cm and over for Lengthy.
Does this apply to your Pro in Clubs?
EA published the rule in the FC 26 gameplay notes and did not restate it in the Clubs notes. Your Pro carries the attributes and the height the rule reads, and your Archetype decides the range both are allowed to sit in.

Measured from 109,638 players and 45,761 matches, kept since 17 September 2026. EA returns the last ten. Look up your own club and see where you land.
