What each one actually produces
Measured across 146 archived midfielders, the largest outfield group in the archive. It is also the group where the same shirt covers the most different jobs, and the table says so plainly.

Same rating, very different jobs
Spark scores 0.55 per 90 and Recycler scores 0.03 — 17.6 times as many. Creator tops the assists at 0.60. These are not small differences of degree; they are different jobs wearing the same label.
And EA’s rating barely notices. The four sit within 0.2 of each other at a group average of 7.6, so a build producing several times the goals of another is rewarded at almost the same mark. Whatever the match rating is measuring in midfield, it is not output.
Which makes rating the wrong number to judge a midfield build by. Pick the job you actually do, then hold yourself to that row’s goals and assists rather than to the group’s.
