How does the Pro Clubs rating system work?

Nobody outside EA knows the formula. What is knowable is the distribution, and that answers the question people are really asking when they ask how the rating works.

the median archived rating

EA publishes no rating formula. The distribution is measurable, and it answers the question people are really asking.

Nobody outside EA knows the formula

Not this site, not the video with 400,000 views, not the forum post with the spreadsheet. EA has never published how the 1 to 10 is produced, and every explanation you have read was assembled by watching numbers move.

What watching does establish is the direction of things. Goals and assists lift it. Passes completed lift it a little. Losing the ball drops it. It starts near 6.0 for turning up rather than at zero, which is why a quiet game still reads 6.2 and not 1.4. That is the honest limit of what anybody can tell you.

What the spread actually looks like

80% of players7.91
90% of players8.23

Half of everybody archived sits below 7.37. 8.23 is the top tenth. A player who averages 7.5 across a season is not having a good run, they are near the top of the game.

The same number means four different things

Not enough archived players in every position yet to compare them. It fills in as clubs get looked up.

What to do with it

Read it over ten matches, not one. A single game swings on a deflection and a red card, and the number is noisy enough that one bad night proves nothing.

If you want it to climb, the lever with the clearest effect is finishing the moves you are already in rather than starting more of them. Shots that miss cost you. Passes that find somebody pay. That is not a formula, it is the direction the numbers move, and it is as far as honest advice goes here.

Questions people ask

How is the Pro Clubs match rating calculated?
EA has never published the formula, and anybody who gives you one has guessed. What is observable is that it moves with goals, assists, passing and defensive actions, and that it starts near 6.0 rather than at zero.
What is an average match rating in Pro Clubs?
The median archived player averages 7.37. 8.23 puts you in the top ten per cent.
Is a goalkeeper rating comparable to a striker rating?
Not enough archived players in both positions yet to compare them honestly.
Does the rating decide your skill rating?
No. Skill rating is a club figure that moves with results in ranked play. The match rating is a per player number EA prints after every game. They are different things and one does not feed the other.
