Shot Stopper or Sweeper Keeper in FC 26?
One of them concedes less and keeps more clean sheets. The other makes more saves, which is not the same thing as being better.
Measured hereUpdated 12 August 2026
1.62 goals a game against 1.82, and a clean sheet in 35.7 per cent of matches against 32.1. Both numbers come from the same archive, over 6,963 keepers with a season of minutes behind them.
The short answer
Pick Shot Stopper if you want to concede fewer goals. It keeps more clean sheets and its clubs win slightly more often. Pick Sweeper Keeper if your defence pushes high and you are happy leaving your line, because it makes more saves per game and gets to more balls in behind.
The gap is real but it is not huge. Nobody loses a night because they picked the other one.

Why Sweeper Keeper makes more saves and still concedes more
More saves is not a good thing on its own. A keeper who leaves the line faces more shots from closer range, so the save count goes up and so does the number that goes past them. If you only look at saves you will pick the wrong one.
One thing that matters more than the pick
Keepers are rated near 6.0 in this game while outfielders sit near 7.5. That is how EA scores the position, not a judgement on you. If your club ranks players by match rating, your keeper will always look worst, and they are usually the reason you are winning.
Questions people ask
- Is Shot Stopper or Sweeper Keeper better in FC 26?
- Shot Stopper, on the numbers. It concedes 1.62 goals a game against 1.82, keeps a clean sheet in 35.7 per cent of matches against 32.1, and its clubs win slightly more often. Measured across 6,963 keepers with at least a season of minutes.
- Why does Sweeper Keeper make more saves?
- Because it leaves the line more, so it faces more shots from closer in. More saves and more goals conceded go together. A high save count on its own is not a good sign.
- Should I pick Sweeper Keeper at all?
- Yes, if your defence pushes high up the pitch. It gets to balls in behind that a Shot Stopper does not reach. The gap between the two is small either way.
- Why is my keeper rating so low?
- Keepers average about 6.0 in this game while outfielders average about 7.5. That is how EA scores the position. If your club ranks people by match rating your keeper will always look worst, whatever they do.
