Is there a real EA FC 26 Archetype tier list?
Every other tier list is an opinion, because nobody outside the game could see an Archetype. This one is counted, and the order will annoy people.
Measured hereUpdated 11 August 2026
Engine, a defender, sits top. Magician, the most popular Archetype in the game by a distance, sits bottom. The gap is nearly seven points of win rate.
The list nobody could publish before
Every FC 26 Archetype tier list you can find is somebody’s opinion, because the Archetype was not visible to anyone outside the game. It is now: EA stamps it on the match rows it returns, and this archive has been storing it per build ever since. So this list is counted rather than argued — 168,385 builds with at least a season of minutes, across 2,044,251 archived appearances.
Read it as what these Archetypes are doing, not as advice to switch. A win rate belongs to a team of eleven, and nobody picks their team-mates.

The best-rated Archetypes are not the winning ones
Target has the highest match rating in the game at 7.73 and the third-worst win rate. Magician has the most goals and assists of any Archetype played at scale and the worst win rate of all thirteen. Engine and Progressor have the two worst attacking returns and the two best win rates.
EA’s match rating pays for the ball: goals, assists, dribbles, shots. Winning is paid for elsewhere. That is the same finding as the position guide on this site — the quiet roles are undervalued by the number the game shows you, and they are not undervalued by the scoreboard.
What this does not prove
Three things could produce this table without an Archetype being “better”. Organised clubs field defenders and keepers and win more for reasons of their own; a Magician is the pick of somebody joining a random lobby; and a player who is losing changes Archetype more often than one who is winning. None of that is measured here.
What is measured is the state of play: this is what the thirteen Archetypes return, in public, from a two-million-appearance sample. Anybody claiming otherwise about FC 26 has not counted anything.
Questions people ask
- Which EA FC 26 Archetype has the best win rate?
- Engine, at 59.5 per cent across archived builds, with Progressor second at 59.2. Both are defenders. Magician, the most played Archetype in the game, is last at 52.8.
- Is there an official EA tier list for Archetypes?
- No. EA has published no ranking of the 13 Archetypes. Every tier list is either somebody’s opinion or, like this one, counted from stored matches.
- Does this mean I should switch Archetype?
- Not on its own. A win rate belongs to a whole team, and organised clubs field more defenders and goalkeepers than open lobbies do. The table says what these Archetypes return, not what switching would do to your results.
- Why do the best-rated Archetypes win least?
- EA’s match rating pays for goals, assists, shots and dribbles. Target has the highest rating in the game at 7.73 and the third-worst win rate; Engine has almost no attacking return and the best. The rating measures the ball, not the scoreboard.
