Every position, measured
Per 90 minutes, so a substitute and an ever-present sit on the same scale, and averaged per player so the busiest people do not decide the answer for everybody. These are the positions players actually occupied in stored matches, not the position EA lists them at.

Scoring most is not the same as rating highest
The position with the highest average match rating here is maestro, at 7.68. EA’s rating is not a goal counter. Passing, tackling, positioning and time on the ball all move it, which is why a defender who never scores can finish a match rated above a forward who did.
So “best position” has two different answers depending on what you are asking. If you want the numbers people screenshot, play where the goals are. If you want the rating, the quiet positions are far kinder than their reputation.
What this does not tell you
It says what each position produces, not what wins matches. A club of eleven forwards does not out-score anybody, and the archive has no way to measure the work that never appears in a stat line — the run that drags a defender away, the pass that is not played.
Position here is the bucket EA records per match: goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward. Nothing finer exists in the data, so a winger and a striker are one group.
