Why does the AI goalkeeper play differently in FC 26 Pro Clubs?
Most clubs play with an AI keeper most nights, which makes it the one player on the pitch nobody in your squad is responsible for.

EA built a learned system for where the keeper stands. It switches off for the save itself.
What EA actually changed
FC 26 introduced reinforcement-learning goalkeeper positioning. EA describes it as a system that uses machine learning to help AI-controlled keepers decide where to stand in the box, having analysed a large number of scenarios, so they cut angles down and adjust to different kinds of attack more sensibly.
Then EA drew a line under it, and the line matters more than the feature. The system is only active in certain situations and is only used to position the keeper. It is not active when making a save or performing a catch.
So a stop your keeper pulls off is ordinary code doing ordinary work. What the learned system bought you was the keeper being in a better place when the shot came.
Not every console has it
EA tagged the positioning system as new generation, which covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One your keeper is running the older positioning behind the same shirt.
You will not meet it across a match, because EA splits the Clubs pools by generation and both clubs in your game are on the same side of that line. The difference shows up between your matches and somebody else’s, which is the harder kind to notice.
Why rebounds stopped falling to strikers
This is the change most people have felt without naming. EA added deflection control: most deflections now go out of bounds, toward teammates, or into open space away from opponents. Competitive gameplay goes further and has every keeper deflection try to get away from danger, which EA says is aimed at reducing rebound goals.
Blocks and interceptions got the same treatment. A blocked shot is pushed away from danger, and an interception tries to keep possession or move the ball to a teammate rather than spilling it back to the player who passed it.
If your club scored a lot of tap-ins last year, that supply has been cut off on purpose.
The rest of the keeper rework
EA lists three other things. Goalkeeper senses were refined so keepers read shot trajectories more like a real save effort. Handling was rebuilt for more consistent shot-stopping. Decision making in one-on-one situations was made more reasonable, which is EA admitting what it used to be.
The animations are new as well, built from real-world volumetric motion capture. EA says that makes keepers respond more accurately to different types of shot, so it is not purely a visual change.
Calling for the ball off your own keeper
The CPU call-for-pass logic was improved, and EA named the case directly. When several players request a pass at once the CPU now prefers a better option, and the notes call out the CPU goalkeeper choosing better when people spam the request. It applies to Clubs and to Rush.
In Clubs Rush the keeper can be a human instead. The lobby holds up to five, one of them has to be using a goalkeeper Archetype for the match to start, and a squad that would rather play without one can turn off the Find GK setting.
No save figure exists to check any of this
EA publishes no save percentage for Clubs and sends no goalkeeping counter this site could store. Every benchmark here is an outfield axis, so there is no honest way to show you that keepers concede less in FC 26 than they did in FC 25. The changes above are EA describing its own work, and that is all they are.

Questions people ask
- Why does the AI goalkeeper play differently in FC 26 Pro Clubs?
- EA built a new positioning system for AI keepers using reinforcement learning. It reads the attack and picks where to stand inside the box, cutting the angle down more sensibly than the old logic managed.
- Does that system make the saves too?
- It does not, and EA is explicit about it. The learned system only positions the keeper, and it switches off for the save itself and for catches, so a good stop is still the ordinary code doing it.
- Why do rebounds not fall to strikers any more?
- Deflection control. EA says most deflections now go out of play, toward a teammate, or into space away from opponents, and Competitive pushes every keeper deflection away from danger on top of that.
- Is the new keeper positioning on every console?
- No. EA tagged it as new generation, covering PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. A PlayStation 4 or Xbox One match is running the older positioning behind the same keeper.
- Does the CPU keeper still hoof it when you call for the ball?
- Less often. EA improved the Call for Pass logic so the CPU weighs several requests at once and takes the better option, and it names the spammed keeper case for Clubs and Rush specifically.
