Which Archetype should you play on the wing in FC 26?
The wing is the one slot where a full back build and a pure finisher are both on EA’s own list, which is why the spread of what wingers record is so wide.
Measured hereUpdated 22 August 2026
They come from 3 of EA’s four groups. A build drawn for a full back and a build drawn for a poacher are both legal on the same flank.
The widest span on the pitch
No other slot in the game stretches this far. Engine comes out of the defender group and Target comes out of the attacker group, and EA’s Suggested Positions screens put both of them on the wing. Whoever picked your winger told you almost nothing about how they are going to play.
| Archetype | Group | Signature PlayStyle |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | Defender | Rapid |
| Creator | Midfielder | Quick Step |
| Spark | Midfielder | Technical |
| Magician | Attacker | Inventive |
| Finisher | Attacker | Acrobatic |
| Target | Attacker | Press Proven |
Running at people, and putting it in the box
Two numbers separate wide players, and neither of them is goals. How often you take somebody on. How often the ball ends up in the middle. Every build with a hundred archived players behind it is below, at the middle of its own distribution.
No build on this list has a hundred archived players yet. The table fills in as clubs get looked up.
Crossing is the number people expect a winger to lead, and it is the one worth being suspicious of. A cross counts whether it reached anybody or went out for a goal kick, so a high figure can mean a player who beats their full back every time, or a player who gives the ball away from the same spot twice a minute.
What they end up with
Finisher scores most of the six, at 1.01 per 90. Magician sets up most, at 0.78. Those are two different builds and two different wingers.
| Archetype | Goals / 90 | Assists / 90 | Rating | Players |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Magician | 0.84 | 0.78 | 7.4 | 40 |
| Finisher | 1.01 | 0.53 | 7.6 | 61 |
| Spark | 0.55 | 0.45 | 7.4 | 27 |
| Creator | 0.25 | 0.60 | 7.5 | 32 |
| Engine | 0.08 | 0.05 | 7.5 | 25 |
Pick for the space your club leaves
Wide players live off what happens behind them. If your full back overlaps every attack, take a build that can come inside and shoot. If nobody behind you moves, you are the width on that side and the crossing figures above matter more than the goals. Ask the person playing behind you before you pick, which is a conversation almost nobody in this game has.
Questions people ask
- Which Archetypes can play LW or RW in FC 26?
- Engine, Creator, Spark, Magician, Finisher and Target. They come from three of EA’s four groups, which is the widest span of any position on the pitch.
- How many dribbles per 90 does a good winger complete?
- The archive has not measured enough players on that counter to answer yet.
- Which winger Archetype scores most?
- Finisher, on 1.01 goals per 90 across 61 archived players. That figure covers every position those players stood in, so read it as what the build produces.
- Are crosses a good measure of a winger?
- A cross counts whether it found somebody or went out of play, so the figure rewards volume on its own. Read it beside dribbles and assists before deciding a high number is a good sign.
