Why are my first time passes so inaccurate in FC 26?

Your passing attribute is fine. Clubs runs on the one gameplay preset that trades first time accuracy for speed, and there is no setting to turn it off.

Competitive
the only gameplay preset Clubs can run

And the one EA tuned to reduce first time pass accuracy. There is no setting that turns it off.

The accuracy drop is deliberate and it is written down

EA says it plainly in the passing section of the FC 26 notes: in Competitive gameplay, first time pass accuracy is reduced, despite being more responsive. Clubs is locked to Competitive. So the ball leaves quicker and finds its target less often, and both halves of that were chosen.

Your passing attribute is doing its job. What changed is the tuning sitting on top of it, and it applies to every player in every Clubs match equally.

The passes that lost the most

Backwards and sideways through balls took the heaviest cut. EA made first time through passes at 135 and 180 degrees significantly less accurate, and gave the reason: those angles were feeding exploits built on directed runs.

If your habit is a one-touch ball back into the runner behind you, that is the exact shape the change was aimed at. Take a touch and turn, and the same pass becomes an ordinary one again.

What got better in the same patch

Passing angles were widened, so a pass at an awkward angle now has an animation to use. First touch animations were enabled for short passes where the context suits, backheels play contextually on passes behind, and short low-power passes prefer faster animations with minimal wind-up.

Ground passes travel straighter, with less of the contextual curve FC 25 put on them, and teammates hold their position to receive rather than drifting off the line. Lob passes are more driven when the path is clear.

Passing Lanes are the one worth practising. On a semi-assisted through pass, aim at the gap between two opponents and the game picks the best receiver inside that gap, which means your aim decides the target instead of the nearest body doing it for you.

The button that buys accuracy back

Hold L2 or LT as the ball arrives. EA calls this First Touch Precision: it greatly improves your ability to control the ball, and it costs you move speed while you hold it. Pressing earlier gives more control than pressing late.

That is the trade the change is pushing you toward. One touch to settle, then a pass with none of the first time penalty on it.

What this looks like in the archive

Pass completion is one blended number and always will be. EA sends one attempted count and one completed count per match, so a first time ball, a settled pass and a hopeful clearance all land in the same pair.

Half of all archived players complete under 81.8%. A player who takes a touch before every pass and one who plays everything first time can sit on the same figure, so read your own number as a habit rather than as a verdict on your passing.

Questions people ask

Why are my first time passes so inaccurate in FC 26?
EA reduced first time pass accuracy in Competitive gameplay, and Clubs is locked to Competitive. The passes are quicker off the boot than they were and less accurate at the same time, on purpose.
Which first time passes lost the most?
The ones going backwards. EA says first time through passes at 135 and 180 degrees are significantly less accurate now, aimed at the exploits people were building out of directed runs.
How do you take a cleaner touch instead?
Hold L2 or LT as the ball arrives. EA calls it First Touch Precision, it trades your move speed for control, and holding it earlier gives you more of that control.
What are passing lanes in FC 26?
A change to semi-assisted through passes. Aim at the gap between two opponents and the game picks the best receiver inside that gap, so your aim is respected instead of being overruled by a nearer body.
Does any of this show up in pass completion?
Only as one blended number. The median archived player completes 81.8% of their passes, and EA sends one attempted count and one completed count per match, so a first time ball and a settled one arrive here indistinguishable.
