How many goal contributions per game is good in Pro Clubs?

Goals flatter finishers and assists flatter creators. Contributions put both jobs on one scale — and the honest total is not the one you reach by adding the two medians together.

0.22
Median goals and assists per 90 minutes

One axis for the player who finishes and the player who sets it up. Half the archive sits below this figure.

Why both halves go in one column

An assist needs somebody else to finish. A goal usually needs somebody else to pass. Judge a creator on goals and you will find a poor striker; judge a striker on assists and you will find a poor midfielder. Adding the two is the cheapest fix there is, and it is the reason this axis exists at all.

It is not the whole answer. A player who scores ten and sets up none, and a player who does the reverse, land on the same figure here while doing different jobs. Read this beside the two axes it is built from rather than instead of them.

You cannot add the two medians

Add the median goals to the median assists and you get 0.06 per 90. The measured median for the pair is 0.22. Those are different numbers, and the gap is not an error.

Half the archive is above the goals median and half is above the assists median. They are not the same half, and they never are: the middle of one column plus the middle of another only lands on the middle of their sum if the same people occupy both, which no two stats on a football pitch ever manage. Adding the two describes a player who does not exist. That is how a forum post arrives at a target nobody has ever hit.

Both figures are read from the same daily rebuild, over the same archived players, so the difference between them is the arithmetic rather than the sample.

Split by position

A centre-back and a striker are not chasing the same number, and the split says by how much.

What to do with a low figure

Check where you are standing when the ball goes forward. Contributions are counted at the end of moves, so a midfielder who never gets past the ball will read low here whatever their passing looks like — that is a fact about position on the pitch, not about ability. The two cheapest changes are arriving later in the box and taking the shot yourself when the pass needs three touches to arrive.

And if your figure is low while your pass completion is high, you are probably the player who starts the moves rather than ends them. Second assists are the axis that finally counts that, and this site decodes them because EA reports no total for it.

Questions people ask

How many goal contributions per game is good in Pro Clubs?
The median archived player makes 0.22 goals and assists per 90 minutes together. 1.97 puts you in the top tenth, and 4.60 in the top one per cent. Where you play moves this more than how well you play does.
Can you work out contributions by adding goals and assists?
Not from the medians. Median goals sit at 0.06 per 90 and median assists at 0.00, which adds to 0.06. Measured directly, the median for the pair is 0.22. The half of the archive above the goals median is not the same half that is above the assists median, so the two sums never meet.
Do contributions mean anything for a defender?
They mean something different. The median defender makes 0.00 per 90 and the median forward 1.24, so judging the two against one figure tells you which shirt they wear rather than how well either played.
