How many interceptions per game is good in Pro Clubs?

Tackling is what gets counted and interceptions are what good defenders actually do. EA reports no total for them; the match events do, so here is the measured distribution.

—
Median interceptions per 90 minutes

Decoded from per-match event ids. EA reports tackles and never reports this, which is why every defensive guide on the internet is about tackling.

The defending that never gets counted

A tackle is a duel: someone got past you far enough that you had to go and win the ball back. An interception is the duel not happening — the pass read, the lane closed, the move over before it started. EA counts the first and publishes nothing at all about the second.

The per-match event ids do carry it, so this is the one defensive axis that can be ranked here and nowhere else.

The whole distribution

Every measured player in the archive, sorted. Find your own interceptions per 90 on the left and read across.

Split by position

Not enough archived players carry a position yet for this split. It fills in as clubs get looked up.

Fewer tackles is not less defending

A defender high on interceptions and low on tackles is usually reading the game rather than doing less of it. The ball never arrives at the moment where a tackle is needed. Judge the pair together, and judge both beside what the team actually conceded — which is the only defensive outcome EA reports at all.

Questions people ask

How many interceptions per game is good in Pro Clubs?
Decoded from the match events, the median player makes — interceptions per 90 minutes and the top ten per cent make — or more. Defenders and holding midfielders sit far above that; forwards sit near the bottom of it by design.
Does EA track interceptions in Pro Clubs?
Not as a published stat. Tackles are reported and interceptions are not, which is why every defensive guide on the internet talks about tackling. The count is present in the per-match event ids, and decoding those is what lets this site rank it.
Is an interception better than a tackle?
Usually, yes. An interception wins the ball without a duel, so nothing is risked and nobody is beaten. A defender with high interceptions and low tackles is often reading the game well rather than defending less — the ball simply never reaches the moment where a tackle is required.
