What is a good tackle success rate in Pro Clubs?

A tackle count tells you how often you won the ball. It says nothing about how often you went in and missed, and the missing half is the one that decides whether you are worth picking.

36.1%
Median tackle success

Tackles won as a share of tackles gone into. The count everybody quotes is the top half of that fraction, and on its own it cannot separate a clean defender from a reckless one.

What this divides

EA records two things about a challenge: that you went into it, and that you came out with the ball. Tackles per 90 uses the second number only. This uses both, so a lunge that missed finally shows up somewhere — as an attempt that never became a tackle.

Only the matches that arrived carrying an attempt count are in the division. Summing every stored match into it produced players above 100%, which is a figure that discredits every other number on the page.

The whole distribution

Every measured player, sorted. The right column is a success rate; the left is the share of players you are ahead of if you hold it.

Split by position

A centre-back and a striker are not choosing between the same challenges, so the same rate describes two different players.

A high rate can mean you are not defending

The quickest way to push this number up is to stop going into the hard ones. Wait until the ball is half loose, take the challenge nobody could lose, and the fraction looks excellent while your half of the pitch is overrun. A rate near 66.7% on two challenges a game is usually that player.

So read it against volume, every time. Plenty of attempts at a middling rate is a defender doing the job; very few attempts at a spotless rate is somebody standing near the job.

Why fewer players are ranked on this

Attempts are not on every stored match. The column landed partway through this archive, and a missing attempt count is not a zero — it is nobody having looked. Matches without it stay out of the division, and a player left with no attempts at all is left out of the ranking rather than dropped to the floor of a distribution they were never measured in.

Questions people ask

What is a good tackle success rate in Pro Clubs?
The median measured player wins 36.1% of the tackles they go into, and the top ten per cent win 66.7% or more. Both figures come from EA's own attempt count, so a challenge you lost is in the denominator rather than missing.
Is a high tackle success rate always good?
No. The safest way to win a high share of your tackles is to only go into the ones already half won, which is a description of a defender who lets the ball come to them. Read the rate beside tackles per 90: the pair says how often you commit and how often it comes off, and neither number answers that alone.
Why do some players have no tackle success rate?
Because attempts are not on every stored match. The column arrived partway through this archive and everything older carries no attempts at all, which is not the same as carrying zero. Those matches sit out of the division rather than dragging it down, and a player with none of them is left out of the ranking instead of placed at the bottom.
