How do free kicks work in FC 26 Pro Clubs?
Free kicks are the one set piece EA left almost undocumented for FC 26. Three attribute thresholds and one removal are the whole published record, and they still tell you what to buy.
From EAUpdated 3 September 2026
EA publishes the thresholds for the free kick PlayStyle. It publishes almost nothing else about free kicks in FC 26.
What EA actually changed
Timed Finishing is gone from FC 26. EA removed it because the second press became the Low Driven modifier, and says free kick trajectories were adjusted afterwards to suit. That is the entire published gameplay change for free kicks this year.
So the aiming you learned still applies. Anybody selling you a new free kick technique for FC 26 has gone further than EA did, and the notes are short enough to check.
Dead Ball has a published price
The PlayStyle that improves your set pieces is Dead Ball, and EA uses it as the worked example for how PlayStyle unlocking works. Three attributes have to reach a value first.
| Attribute | Needed for Dead Ball |
|---|---|
| FK Accuracy | 75 |
| Crossing | 80 |
| Shot Power | 80 |
Those three numbers are the same on every Archetype. What differs is the bill, because each Archetype starts its attributes somewhere else and discounts four Key Attributes. A build opening near 80 Shot Power reaches Dead Ball cheaply. A build opening in the fifties spends a lot of levels getting there and gets nothing else for the money.
You can go at it from the Edit Attributes screen or from the Customizable PlayStyles screen, where selecting the PlayStyle spends the points for you if you have enough.

The taker setting people keep hunting for
FC 26 added eight set piece assignments and none of them is a free kick. EA lists five jobs at an attacking corner, four at a defensive one, and a throw-in taker for the left and right side. The Assignments tab covers corners and throw-ins.
EA has published nothing about who takes a free kick in Clubs. That is worth saying plainly, because it is the question the search results answer most confidently and with the least behind it.
Practise them where it is free
The Practice Arena got two quality of life changes this year. You can change the set piece kick taker on the fly, and corners can now be taken in there at all, which they could not be before.
Fifteen minutes in the arena is worth more than a season of taking one free kick a match and hoping. It is also the only place to find out what your Pro does with the ball before you find out in a league game.
What nobody can tell you
Whether Competitive Gameplay changes free kick accuracy. EA lists reduced assistance and less randomness as its aims and never mentions set pieces in that section, so the honest answer is that it has not been said either way.
This site cannot settle it either. EA sends no free kick data on a match row, so the archive holds no count of them and any page quoting a free kick conversion rate for Pro Clubs invented the figure.

Questions people ask
- What changed about free kicks in FC 26?
- EA removed Timed Finishing and says free kick trajectories were adjusted because of it. That is the whole published gameplay change for free kicks, so anybody handing you a new aiming technique is going past what EA wrote.
- What are the Dead Ball PlayStyle requirements in FC 26?
- EA gives three attribute values: FK Accuracy 75, Crossing 80 and Shot Power 80. The requirements are the same for every Archetype, so what varies is how much Attribute Point spending it takes you to reach them.
- Can you set a free kick taker in Pro Clubs?
- Not in anything EA has published. The FC 26 set piece assignments EA lists cover attacking corners, defensive corners and a throw-in taker for each side. No free kick assignment appears in that list.
- Why does Dead Ball cost more on some Archetypes?
- Because Archetypes start from different attribute values and each one has four Key Attributes that cost less to upgrade. A build already near 80 Shot Power pays little for it, and a build starting in the fifties pays for every point.
- Where can you practise free kicks in FC 26?
- The Practice Arena. EA added the ability to change the kick taker for set pieces on the fly there, and corners can now be taken in it as well, which makes it the only place to test a routine without spending a match on it.
