Archetypes EA suggests at CB

Progressor, Boss and Recycler. Two of those are defenders. The third is a midfielder, and EA put it on the centre-back screen deliberately.

A midfielder on the centre-back list

Centre-half has the narrowest choice of any outfield slot in the game. Three builds, and one of them was drawn for the middle of the park. Recycler carries the Tiki Taka PlayStyle and the lowest attacking output of any outfield build in EA’s thirteen, which is exactly why a centre-half screen lists it.

Tackle success, build by build

A centre-half who dives in twice a match and wins both is worth more than one who dives in six times and wins three. That is what this table measures. The archive median across every position is 36.1 per cent, so read each build against that.

No build here has reached a hundred archived players, which is the floor for a distribution worth printing. It fills in as clubs get looked up.

What the three produce at the other end

Centre-halves score. Corners, set pieces, the odd stroll forward when a club is two down with ten minutes left. The archive keeps all of it.

Your interception count is mostly your starting position

Interceptions get counted where the ball is. A centre-half who holds the line takes fewer than one who steps into midfield, and neither of those is a statement about how good the defender is. Compare yourself with people on your build and in your role, and treat a low count from a deep line as the job working.

What to pick

Take Boss or Progressor if you are the last defender and the club plays a high line. Take Recycler when your club has nobody who can receive the ball under pressure and pass it out, because that is the job it was drawn for and the numbers above show what it costs you going forward. Change it after a bad run: the menu path is three screens deep and free.

Questions people ask

Which Archetypes can play CB in FC 26?
Progressor, Boss and Recycler. The first two come from EA’s defender group and Recycler comes from midfield, which makes centre-half the narrowest pool of any outfield slot in the game.
What is a good tackle success rate for a centre-back?
Across every archived player the median is 36.1 per cent and 66.7 per cent is the top tenth. Winning the ball cleanly matters more here than the number of attempts, because a defender who misses is the last one.
Why is a midfield build suggested at centre-back?
Recycler holds the lowest attacking output of any outfield Archetype and carries the Tiki Taka PlayStyle. A centre-half who keeps the ball and gives it to somebody in a better position is doing what that build was drawn to do.
Does a low interception count mean you are defending badly?
It usually means you are standing deeper. Interceptions are counted where the ball is, so a defender holding the line takes fewer than one stepping into midfield, and both can be doing the job correctly.
