Does holding your position raise your rating in FC 26 Pro Clubs?
The oldest piece of Pro Clubs advice is to hold your shape and let the rating look after itself. One line in the FC 26 gameplay notes takes it away.

The gameplay notes lower the Positioning contribution everywhere and then switch it off here. Clubs is named on its own line.
The sentence that ends the advice
EA writes that the importance of Positioning stats in Match Ratings has been dramatically lowered across the board, and that it has been nullified for Clubs and locked to player matches. Read it twice. Every version of hold your shape and the rating looks after itself was built on an input this mode no longer counts.
It is a terse line and EA did not expand on it. What can be said is what it says: in Clubs, and in the modes where you control one player, positioning contributes nothing to the number beside your name.
What is left holding the number up
Match Rating became Role Rating in FC 26, and EA splits it into six groups. Goalkeeping, defending, dribbling, shooting and passing are the five that move with what you did. The sixth is shared, and it carries goals scored and conceded by the team, red cards, and your own goals and assists.
The weighting on those five moves with your assigned Role. EA gives the example plainly: two central midfielders who play an identical match, one on Box to Box and one on Playmaker, might come off on 8.0 and 8.5, because the second Role prices chance creation higher. Same actions. Different marking scheme.
Roles that resemble each other get grouped. A centre back on Defender or Stopper is judged mostly on defensive work, while a Ball Playing centre back also has their passing counted. Knowing which of those you were handed is worth more than any drill.
Open the Performance screen mid-match
EA says the Performance screens during a match show a breakdown of these ratings and how much each contributes to your total. That is the marking scheme printed on the screen while you are still able to do something about it.
Almost nobody looks. Check it at half time in your next three games and you will know which group your Role actually leans on, which is a better use of ten seconds than any argument about the formula.
Why defenders were never going to win this
The archive measures where the positions actually land. Median rating for an archived defender is 7.33. For a forward it is 7.38. Those are two people doing their job properly, and the distance between them was decided by the shirt.
Losing the positioning contribution costs defenders most, because it was the part of the job that had no scoreboard. Judge yourself against your own position, over a month, and ignore the club average entirely.
The one thing that costs everybody
Red cards sit in the shared group, so a sending off marks down a keeper and a striker the same way. The median archived player takes 0.00 per 90, so for most people this is a rare event that lands hard when it comes.
Positioning still decides matches
None of this is an argument for wandering. Goals conceded by the team sit in the group EA says weighs on every player equally, so a defence caught out of shape arrives on your rating anyway. It arrives through the scoreline instead of arriving directly.
What changed is the shortcut. Standing still in the right square used to pay something on its own, and in FC 26 it pays only when it stops a goal.
EA publishes no rating formula and none of this is one. These are the groups and the weightings EA has described, and the rest of what circulates was assembled by watching numbers move.

Questions people ask
- Does positioning affect your rating in FC 26 Pro Clubs?
- EA says the importance of Positioning stats in Match Ratings was dramatically lowered across the board, and that for Clubs it was taken away entirely and locked to player matches. Standing in the right place no longer feeds the number in this mode.
- What does the FC 26 Role Rating actually count?
- EA lists six groups: goalkeeping, defending, dribbling, shooting, passing, and a shared one holding goals scored and conceded by the team, red cards, and your own goals and assists. That last group weighs on every player equally.
- Where do you see your rating breakdown during a match?
- The Performance screens, mid-match. EA says they show each rating group and how much it contributed to your total, which makes it the one place your Role is marked in the open instead of being guessed at afterwards.
- Does a defender and a forward mean the same rating?
- No. The median archived defender averages 7.33 and the median forward 7.38. Both are ordinary for the job they do, and one number for everybody hides that.
- Do red cards still cost you rating in FC 26?
- Yes. EA puts red cards in the group that weighs on every player equally. The median archived player takes 0.00 per 90 and 0.20 is the top one per cent, so most people are paying this almost never and a few are paying it weekly.
- So does positioning not matter in Pro Clubs any more?
- It stopped paying the number and it did not stop winning matches. Goals conceded by the team sit in the group EA says weighs on everybody, so a back four standing in the wrong place still arrives on your rating. It just arrives through the scoreline.
